Tickets are now available for a special 60th-anniversary screening of 'The Sound of Music', a famous American musical movie made in 1965.

The film has been carefully fixed and improved and made sharper and clearer in 4K resolution for showing in cinema halls.

From September 20, 2025, the movie will be shown by the UK-based global in event cinema distribution Trafalgar Releasing in more than 950 cinema halls across more than 28 countries for a limited time.

It was directed by Robert Wise and stars Julie Andrews as Maria, a young woman who leaves the convent to be a governess for Captain von Trapp’s seven children. The story takes place in Austria in the years before World War II.

When it first came out in the US, the movie ran in cinema halls for four-and-a-half years. The film won five Academy Awards.

The entertainment-trade magazine Variety called it the “All-Time Box Office Champion” during the reporting periods of 1940-1960.

Kymberli Frueh, a senior manager at Trafalgar Releasing, said the new version lets people enjoy the film’s beauty and sound in cinema halls again.

She hopes it will remind fans why they love it and inspire younger viewers to discover its music and story.
